HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - City officials have closed Hanauma Bay on Friday due to an influx of box jellyfish in the area.
Honolulu Ocean Safety also issued a jellyfish warning for this area -- where 100 jellyfish have been counted -- as well as an advisory for Kailua Beach and Lanikai -- where 100 have also been counted. The City and County of Honolulu advises using extreme caution when entering the water.
Emergency Medical Services reported 80 stings at Hanauma Bay and four at Kailua Beach. EMS said three people at Hanauma Bay had allergic reactions, but they declined treatment.
Visitors are still allowed to go to the upper area of Hanauma Bay to enjoy the scenic view.
