Say 'cheese'! Hubble telescope photographs 'smiling' galaxy cluster

A photo from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope shows a cluster of galaxies far, far away that appears to be smiling.

The cluster, called SDSS J1038+4849, is made up of several galaxies that appear in the image as two yellow eyes and a white button nose.

NASA said the 'eyes' are two bright galaxies and the 'smile' and face outline are caused by an effect called "strong gravitational lensing," in which the gravitational pull of the galaxy cluster distorts the spacetime around the cluster, bending the light around it.

NASA said the "strong gravitational lensing" effect helps Hubble peer deeper into space than ever before.
