Hawaii Theatre Center Hana Hou! series presents local favorite Kuana Torres Kahele for one-night only

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Born on the slopes of Mauna Kea in Hilo, Kuana Torres Kahele began composing, arranging and playing traditional Hawaiian music at an early age. He comes from an impressive lineage of musicians and hula practitioners requiring the need to perpetuate a cultural legacy. Kuana is a driving force behind new, yet traditional, Hawaiian music for the purpose of hula. At 36, his contribution to Hawaiian music is already undeniable. With his group NA PALAPALAI and as a solo performer, Kuana has won over 20 Na Hoku Hanohano awards including two Song of the Year awards.

In April of 2014 he launched his MUSIC for the HAWAIIAN ISLAND series with vol.1 HAWAII KEAWE and vol.2 KAHELELANI Niihau, with vol.3 Pi'ilani Maui due this February 24, 2015. This unprecedented collection of all-original music was created to honor and pay tribute and features an individual CD with songs written specifically for each island. By 2017, he will have completed the seven CD set with over 100 new original songs for Hawaii. The impact this will have on hula for generations is immeasurable.

Joining Kuana to showcase new hula from his series are the top awardees from the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival including Na Kumu Hula Sonny Ching and Lopaka Igarta DeVera and Halau Na Mamo O Pu'uanahulu, Kumu Hula Chinky Mahoe and Halau O Kawaili'ula.
