Honolulu police investigate string of dumpster fires in Ala Moana area

Honolulu police arrested 45-year-old Nefi Martinez for arson on Waimanu Street, although it is not clear if he was directly involved in Monday's dumpster fires.

Honolulu police are investigating at least five suspicious dumpster fires that happened early Monday morning within an hour in the Ala Moana area.

The Honolulu Fire Department said the fires broke out between 3:10 and 4:18 a.m. in the following areas:

  • 1066 Waimanu Street
  • Kawaiahao Street
  • Waimanu and Kamakee Streets
  • 1236 Waimanu Street
  • Piikoi and Hopaka Streets

There were no reports of any damages to nearby buildings, and police interviewed witnesses but have not made any arrests in a possible arson case.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
