SCHOFIELD BARRACKS (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Army is seeking community input during a 60-day public comment period on a study of marine resources near Makua beach.

This public is able to submit their comments from February 1 to April 3. The study supplements a 2009 marine resources study, and assesses whether military training activities at Makua Military Reservation pose a health risk to area residents who rely on marine resources for food or other purposes. It was completed in compliance with a 2012 U.S. District Court order.

Comments can also be provided during a public meeting March 5, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Waianae High School.

The study is available online at  click on "2013 MR Study." The study is also available at the Waianae, Kapolei, Wahiawa and Waialua public libraries under the title "Makua Marine Resources Supplemental Study Report, February 2015."
