Medical examiner identifies pedestrian killed last year

HONOLULU (AP) - The medical examiner has released the name of a 38-year-old pedestrian killed last year in Kalihi Valley.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser says the pedestrian was identified as Ranaj Joab, a homeless Honolulu man.

Authorities say Joab was killed the night of Aug. 20 after he was struck by an SUV while crossing Kalihi Street near Manaiki Place.

Police say Joab was caught under the vehicle and dragged several blocks. He died at the scene.

The 24-year-old SUV driver was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide and later released pending further investigation.
