Kalani is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit and Hawaii's largest retreat center, celebrating our 40th year of service in 2015. Kalani is the largest nonprofit serving Puna, the most economically-challenged district in Hawai?i. More than 500 local and visiting volunteers contribute annually to Kalani's operations through our unique programs, including our retreats, Hawaiian culture programs, community center classes and programming, archeological site preservation, special events and stewarding three of East Hawaii's largest festivals.
Kalani's mission is to present nature, culture and wellness in sustainable, educational programs that honor Hawaii's native and diverse heritage. As pioneers in social enterprise, with both donations and services provided through thousands of retreat center visitors annually, Kalani models sustainable community while delivering nearly $30 million in economic impact for the area.
We provide a unique, memorable and enriching visitor experience by designing programs that incorporate Hawaiian heritage, performing arts, wellness and healing therapies, permaculture, sustainable practices, and eco-efficient facilities. You can support Kalani just by visiting, volunteering, or by donating to our community initiatives.
