HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. David Ige says he plans to be more aggressive about bringing federal money to Hawaii.

Ige says federal officials told him about $940 million is available to the state for projects.

Ige delivered remarks in his first annual State of the State address Monday at the Capitol.

Hawaii is beginning a tight budget year, and the state is gradually working its way through its reserves.

Ige says the state has committed all its funds to existing programs. He warns the state is spending more than it takes in.

Ige's also planning to modernize the tax department to collect unpaid taxes.

He says the state also save money, and trees, by doing less printing.

He says when the state Senate went paperless it saved $1.2 million in two years.
