Kaiser workers to go on 6-day strike

A strike by Local 5 against Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is scheduled to begin one week from today on Monday, Feb. 2. Kaiser has proposed resumption of negotiation later than that, while Local 5 has proposed meeting sooner, before the strike begins.

Howard Dicus spoke with Gerald Penaflor, a lab technician, and Shanelle Simpliciano, a nurses aide, both of whom work at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center.

Kaiser declined an interview but sent a statement, which we show on the screen during this segment. According to Local 5, Kaiser is proposing raises of 2%, 1% and 1% over three years.
