HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii House members plan to focus on fixing infrastructure, encouraging business and increasing participation in government.

Leaders of the House of Representatives outlined their priorities for the new legislative session Thursday.

House Majority Leader Scott Saiki says the long-term problems they're tackling can't be resolved quickly.

On infrastructure the House aims to make the state hospital system sustainable and to modernize the state's electrical grid and prisons.

The House shares Gov. David Ige's goal of modernizing the tax collection system and believes that will boost business.

They also hope to increase participation in government by boosting ethics and campaign spending laws. And they want to improve technology so neighbor island residents can testify from afar.

The House and Senate both approved resolutions saying they're against proposed military cuts in Hawaii.
