HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An apparent hit and run left water gushing on Ward Avenue on Monday evening.

According to HFD officials a 40 to 50 foot geyser pierced the air from a broken fire hydrant for at least thirty minutes.

Authorities say the driver crashed into the hydrant and fled the scene, but a bystander recorded the license plate number and gave the information to police.

HFD says police were able to track down the suspect. No information has been given on an arrest.

The estimated loss of water and damage costs have yet to be determined. There were no road closures due to this incident.
