HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A High Surf Warning remains in effect for the west shores of the Big Island of Hawaii, but waves have dropped to advisory levels for the smaller islands.

The National Weather Service said waves of 8 to 12 feet are possible on the west side of the Big Island, where several beaches remained closed Sunday, including:
  • Laaloa or Magic Sands in Kona
  • Kahaluu Beach in Kona
  • Kohanaiki Beach in Kona
  • Ooma
  • Old Airport Park
  • OTEC
  • Kona Coast Beach Park
  • Kua Bay
  • Four Seasons Beach area
  • Hapuna Beach
  • Kaunaoa (Mauna Kea Beach)
  • Mahukona Park
  • Kapa'a Beach Park

Meanwhile, a High Surf Advisory is now in effect for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shores of Maui until 6 a.m. Monday. Surf of 15 to 20 feet is expected for north shores, while west shore surf will come in at 10 to 15 feet. Surf for the west shores of Kauai County islands will be higher.
