RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Stefan Jankovic scored a season-high 17 points but it wasn't enough as the University of Hawai‘i men's basketball team opened Big West Conference road play with a 66-62 loss to UC Riverside, Saturday at SRC Arena.
Roderick Bobbitt stuffed the stat sheet for the ‘Bows (13-6, 1-2 BWC), posting 10 points, five steals, five assists, and six rebounds before fouling out with eight seconds to play. Isaac Fleming added 15 points off the bench.
Steven Thornton had a game-high 22 points for the Highlanders who improved to 9-9 and 2-2 in league play.
The ‘Bows used a 10-4 run in the first half to build what would be the largest lead of the game for either team. Quincy Smith's three-pointer with 7:44 remaining put the ‘Bows ahead 27-16, but the double-digit lead would not stand. UCR closed the half on a 12-4 run to make it a three-point game at halftime.
Hawai‘i continues Big West play next week, hosting UC Davis and UC Irvine on Thursday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
