Kevin Clune leaving UH to be Utah State defensive coordinator

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -  There have been times in the Norm Chow era where Murphy's Law works to a tee-- anything that can go wrong, will go wrong at the worst possible moment.

This week hasn't been a picnic because days after Daronte Jones left for Wisconsin, defensive coordinator Kevin Clune is walking out the door with him.

After only a year on the job, Clune is leaving Manoa to become the defensive coordinator at Utah State.

The Salt Lake Tribune first reported the move Saturday morning.

This is a homecoming for Clune, before joining Hawaii, he spent five years as the Aggies linebackers coach.

In his one season with the Rainbow Warriors, he instilled a 3-4 system that allowed 12 fewer points a game than in 2013.

Clune's new deal is reportedly two-years at $200,000 annually.

With UH, he had been making roughly $40,000 less.

Clune is the second coach to clean out his office this week.

On Tuesday, news broke that associate head coach Daronte Jones is leaving to be the defensive backs coach at Wisconsin.

He was part of Chow's original staff in 2012.

Jones will be working under former UH and current Badgers DC Dave Aranda.
