Army to open Hawaii training area for bird hunting

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - The Army plans to open a training area on Hawaii's Big Island for bird hunting this weekend.

West Hawaii Today reports the Pohakuloa Training Area will be open between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Some areas of the Keamuku training section will be open for shotgun hunting only.

Officials say hunters must check in and check out at various check-in stations, where hunting passes will be provided after 5 p.m. Friday.
