High Surf Advisory in effect for Hawaiian islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A west-northwest swell has produce advisory-level surf for the Hawaiian islands that will last through Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for the following islands:

Niihau:

  • North shores – 18 to 22 feet
  • West shores - 18 to 22 feet

Kauai:

  • North shores – 18 to 22 feet
  • West shores - 18 to 22 feet

Oahu:

  • North shores – 12 to 16 feet
  • West shores – 8 to 12 feet

Molokai:

  • North shores - 12 to 16 feet
  • West shores - 8 to 12 feet

Big Island:

  • West shores

Maui:

  • North shores – 12 to 16 feet

The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters expect strong, breaking waves, shore break and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers should heed all advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
