Prosecutors consider charges in alleged voter fraud

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Prosecutors are considering whether to file charges against a former County Council candidate on Hawaii's Big Island.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports Hawaii County prosecutors have the case after police completed their investigation into alleged voting irregularities by Tiffany Edwards Hunt, a candidate for Council District 5 last year.

At issue is the Pahoa address of her husband's surf shop on her voter registration form in the 2010 and 2012 elections rather than her Hawaiian Acres home. The address was changed to Hawaiian Acres in 2013.

In the 2012 election, the surf shop was in Council District 4.

Edwards Hunt says the strength of her candidacy was so threatening to some that they sifted through her voter registration history.

Edwards Hunt says she believes the allegations cost her the election.
