Siren testing scheduled for Big Island on Wednesday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, together with the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency will conduct siren testing on Hawaii Island Wednesday, Jan. 14, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at:

  • Upchurch, Kailua-Kona
  • Halii Kai/ Kolea Kai, Waikoloa

Residents nearby may hear the siren sound for six to eight times during 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include checks of the public address system and short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, technicians will check that installation work on this siren has been completed properly.

Residents may call HI-EMA at (808) 733-4300 if they have any questions or concerns regarding modernization of the Statewide Outdoor Siren Warning System. Contact the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency at (808) 931-0031 to report routine siren operational issues.
