HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. David Ige says he's accepting the resignation of Hermina Morita as the chairwoman of the state Public Utilities Commission.

The governor said in a statement Monday Morita decided not to seek reappointment.

Former Gov. Neil Abercrombie named her to the post in 2011.

Ige didn't say who he planned to appoint to succeed Morita.

Ige says Morita has led the state's efforts to reduce its dependency on imported oil and to develop local, renewable and clean energy sources.

He says Morita has been the driving force behind policies that have made Hawaii a national leader in clean energy.
