Traffic deaths down on Hawaii's Big Island in 2014

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - The Hawaii Police Department says traffic fatalities on the Big Island dropped 56 percent in 2014, compared with the previous year.

West Hawaii Today reports there were 11 traffic deaths last year, compared with 25 fatalities in 2013.

According to police statistics, three of the 2014 deaths involved drugs and three involved both drugs and alcohol.

The previous year, six fatalities involved drugs and two involved alcohol, while six involved a combination of both drugs and alcohol.
