HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii's only ice-skating rink is now powered by solar energy.

Ice Palace Hawaii announced Tuesday the completion of a photovoltaic system covering roughly 9,000 square feet on the facility's roof.

Ice Palace owner Doug Taylor says the system has reduced their energy bill by about 25 percent. He says the rink is further reducing its carbon footprint by investing in LED lighting.

The photovoltaic system was installed by Distributed Energy Partners. DEP Senior Renewable Energy Developer John Cheever says it's great to see such a recognizable Oahu family attraction setting a positive example.
