No tsunami expected for Hawaii after 6.6 quake near Panama

PANAMA (HAWAIINEWSNOW) - A magnitude 6.6 earthquake near Panama was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake struck at 7:07 p.m. HST off the coast of Central America near Panama.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement:

"Based on all available data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii."
