PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Waiawa Correctional Facility lost power on Tuesday morning after an albizia tree fell on a power line and pulled down a utility pole on Waiawa Prison Road.

The Hawaiian Electric Company said the prison is operating on a generator -- after power went out around 5 a.m. -- until crews complete repairs. A Department of Public Safety spokeswoman said the only program that was directly affected was "KASHBOX," a residential substance abuse program, which is delayed as a result of the outage. Overtime for prison staff will also be minimal, she said.

Waiawa Prison Road was closed for more than three hours, but police reopened the road at around 8:30 a.m. Officers will continue to redirect traffic around the work site until crews clear the scene.

No other outages were reported.
