A High Surf Advisory is now in effect for north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island as a north swell peaks on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory lasts through 6 p.m. Thursday.
Forecasters said surf will reach heights of 14 to 18 feet and will lower to 10 to 15 feet in the afternoon. Strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents will make swimming difficult.
Beachgoers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
