HONOLULU (AP) - Lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano is stalled a short distance from a shopping center in the small town of Pahoa but is active at two other spots further away.
Hawaii County said Monday the front of the flow is about 660 yards from the shopping center. It hasn't moved since Friday. But lava is oozing out of two other points 1 mile and 1.5 mile upslope of the stalled flow front.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Scientist-in-Charge Jim Kauahikaua says it's not clear if a new flow front would develop at one of these spots or if lava might flow again from the stalled front. He says lava could flow from multiple spots.
Hawaii County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira says the county will meet with merchants to discuss the situation.
