Strong storm nears state, Wind Advisory up for Kauai and Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Wind Advisory is now in effect for Kauai and Oahu as a strong cold front nears the state.

The National Weather Service says the front will bring gusty southwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with localized gusts of more than 50 miles per hour. The strongest winds will likely be in areas where winds accelerate downslope of mountain areas.

Winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially in higher-profile vehicles such as trucks and SUV's.

A Wind Advisory will also take effect at 6 p.m. for Maui County and the Big Island of Hawaii. The advisories will run through 6 a.m. Saturday.
