Fukumoto Chang picked as House Minority leader

HONOLULU (AP) - The seven members of the Republican House Minority have picked Rep. Beth Fukumoto Chang as minority leader.

Fukumoto Chang represents Mililani, Mililani Mauka and Waipio Acres.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Rep. Andria Tupola was chosen as minority floor leader. She represents Kalaeloa, Ko Olina and Maili.

The former minority leader, Rep. Aaron Ling Johanson, who represents Fort Shafter, Moanalua Gardens and Aliaman, announced this week he was switching parties and joining House Democrats.

Fukumoto Chang in a prepared statement says the caucus has worked through disagreements and differences of opinion in the last few weeks.

She says the caucus is organized and prepared to be strong advocates for the people of Hawaii.
