Special Olympics Hawaii athlete headed to Rose Bowl

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

In addition to Marcus Mariota, there's another athlete from Hawaii who will be making an impact during the Rose Bowl festivities.

Special Olympics Hawaii athlete, Vici Allen will be attending the Rose Bowl Parade on New Year's Day and representing the Aloha State.

Allen, an avid bowler, will ride atop the Kaiser Permanente float as it rolls down the streets of Pasadena.

Vici Allen's mother was bursting with pride and gratitude when they go the call.

"Special Olympics called us and asked if Vici would like to participate. It was an unbelievable opportunity. We are just so blessed , I mean we're really going to do an awesome job in representing our state. Very proud, very proud."

The theme for this year's Kaiser Permanente float is "together we thrive", in homage of the 7,000 international athletes participating in the Special Olympics World Games next summer.
