Renovations begin on Hilo hotel

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Renovations have begun on a signature Hilo hotel.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports construction signs and barriers now mark the Hilo Naniloa Hotel as part of a renovation at the 383-room hotel.

Oahu-based developer Ed Bushor is a partner with Hilo businessman Ed Olson in the hotel project.

They spent about $7 million to acquire the hotel lease.

Bushor says he's optimistic a loan will be approved soon to finance the estimated $12 million in improvements.

He says money is much more available now than it was a year ago.
