Hawaii sees growth, but not from other states

HONOLULU (AP) - The Census Bureau says more Hawaii residents moved to other states than arrived but the state still managed to grow by 10,500 people.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports births and foreign migrants accounted for the growth over the 12 months that ended July 1.

The Census Bureau estimates that population grew from 1,408,987 to 1,419,561.

The growth rate of .8 percent is slightly higher than the national growth rate of .7 percent.

Hawaii remains the 40th most populous state.
