LAIE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Shoppers on Oahu's North Shore caught a glimpse of the First Family on Tuesday afternoon. First Lady Michelle Obama and at least one of her daughters stopped off for some dessert at an ice cream store in the Laie Shopping Center.

News traveled quickly about the First Lady's arrival. Curious shoppers anxiously waited outside.

"There was a large Secret Service presence and people were excited. They had their cell phones ready to take a picture," said Russell Olsen, a visitor from Utah.

The Olsen family often spends Christmas on Oahu. They were the first customers in the store after Michelle Obama, daughter Malia, and the rest of the group left.

"It was funny because my little brother, the other day we were talking, 'Do you think we'll see the Obamas?' So it's funny we actually saw them," said Lindsey Olsen.

"It's so exciting. I just can't believe we saw Michelle Obama. It's crazy!" said Alyssa Olsen.

Angel Ho opened Angel's Ice Cream, Smoothies & Shave Ice back in 1996. This is the third year in a row that the First Lady has stopped by. Ho said Michelle Obama ordered a hot fudge sundae.

"She just shake my hand and she just ask me, 'How are you?' I say, 'I'm fine. How about you?' And then she's fine she said. I just told her I'm so happy to see her again," said Ho.

Ho isn't sure how the First Family found out about her shop, but for admirers who happened to be in the right place at the right time, the sighting served as an early Christmas gift.

"They're just like real people, like 5 feet away from us. It was crazy, but really happy, Merry Christmas," said Lauren Olsen.

During previous visits, the First Lady and both of her daughters showed up, but Ho wasn't sure if the president's younger daughter, Sasha, was there this time since roughly a dozen people from the group crowded into her store.
