Drones draw complaints on Kauai

LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) - Spectacular scenery on Kauai is a draw for photographers but cameras on drones have started drawing complaints.

Kauai County spokeswoman Sarah Blane confirms that police have received complaints but says they have no laws to enforce.

The Garden Island reports photographers and videographers have used drones to capture images of Waimea Canyon, professional surfers and humpback whales.

But Blane says one resident complained to the Kauai County Council in May after a tourist flew a drone with a camera above swimmers and two people lying on a beach.

Richard Alao of Kapaa says he spotted a drone above his house three times last week, including late at night. He says the device carries a spotlight that shines into windows.
