High Surf Advisory posted for Hawaiian islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for the Hawaiian islands until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Surf along north-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai will be between 14 to 18 feet, and 10 to 15 feet along north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui. Some east-facing shores will experience higher surf.

Impacts from the big surf will be high, with ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, along with very strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors, making navigation of harbor channels dangerous.

The large breaking surf, significant shorebreak and dangerous current will make it very hazardous to enter the water and could result in significant injury or death.

Meantime, officials with The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau big wave surf meet said this swell will not be big enough to run the contest.
