Light winds in weekend weather ahead of cold front

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Very light southeasterly winds are forecast this weekend as an approaching cold front pushes our tradewind-producing high pressure system away from the islands.

The winds will be light enough to allow for afternoon sea breezes. It will also be warm, a bit muggy and perhaps a bit hazy because of the lack of wind.

Skies will be clear in the morning with clouds forming in the afternoon over interior sections of the islands. Those clouds could also produce a few showers. Skies should clear with nighttime cooling.

The cold front itself is forecast to reach Kauai late Sunday. Clouds and showers will be increasing, with a chance of heavy showers sand a slight chance of thunderstorms late Monday and Tuesday.

Winds behind the front will shift and become gusty and cool northerlies at 15 to 25 miles per hour. Conditions should improve by Christmas Eve, with the north winds continuing into Christmas Day.
