A large northwest swell is bringing advisory-level surf to the Hawaiian islands through Friday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai. The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.

According to forecasters, surf along north- and west-facing shores will be between 12 to 16 feet.

NWS said beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shorebreak and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
