Waipahu man charged with making child pornography

HONOLULU (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted a 32-year-old Waipahu man on charges of producing and possessing child pornography.

Federal prosecutors say Derek M. West is charged with three counts of producing child porn and one of possession.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports a woman on Dec. 3 told Honolulu police that she found child pornography images on West's cellphone, including several of her 2-year-old relative.

Honolulu police obtained a search warrant and searched West's cellphone Monday.

Prosecutors say police found 482 images that showed children in sexual acts, including a 2-year-old with West.

The FBI arrested West on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court. His trial has been sent for Feb. 17.

Magistrate Judge Kevin S.C. Chang ordered West held without bail.
