Police investigate officer-involved Puna shooting

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Police on the Big Island are investigating a shooting involving an officer.

Hawaii County police say Puna patrol officers were attempting to stop a stolen pickup truck in Mountain View Tuesday. Police say one of the officers fired at the vehicle because it was speeding toward them.

There were no injuries.

Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports the rush-hour incident closed a lane of busy Volcano Highway, also known as Route 11.

The Hilo Criminal Investigation Section is conducting a criminal investigation, while the Office of Professional Standards is conducting an internal review.

Police are asking for the public's helping in locating the truck. It's described as a black 1989 Nissan single-cab pickup with license plate ZBC 027.
