Police have arrested 30-year-old Chauncey Ingraham after he allegedly broke into a Kailua woman's home on Kaikea Place on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, Ingraham stabbed the victim when she arrived at her house, then took off in a stolen vehicle.

Witnesses have also come forward and told Hawaii News Now they saw the victim running from her house and out into the street after fighting off her attacker.

Neighbors say she was bleeding from her hands and neck.

The 23-year-old woman is still recovering.

Last year, records revealed that Ingraham went back and forth between jail and the state mental hospital as he awaited trial for property damage. Psychologists said he posed a high risk for violence if he was released unsupervised.

Ingraham now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, burglary, and car theft.
