Honolulu man charged with murder in beating death

HONOLULU (AP) - Bail has been set at $1 million for a 41-year-old suspect charged with the beating death of a 33-year-old man in the Honolulu suburb of Salt Lake.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Dale Rodriguez Jr. is charged with second-degree murder in the death Tuesday morning of 33-year-old Jesse Waikiki.

Rodriguez is the former boyfriend of a 38-year-old woman who also was assaulted.

Police say an argument began inside a home and spilled into the street.

A witness told police another man knocked Waikiki down and that Rodriguez used a metal object to deliver three hard blows to Waikiki's head.

A Honolulu medical examiner concluded that Waikiki died of blunt force injuries to the face.

Police say they recovered a bloody metal handle used for pulling a cart.
