SALT LAKE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Salt Lake man has been arrested for second degree murder after allegedly beating to death another man in a love triangle.
41-year-old Dale Rodrigues, Jr. went to the home of his on-again, off-again girlfriend in the 3400 block of Salt Lake Boulevard Tuesday morning.
Police sources say, when the woman didn't open the door, he broke in and found her with another man, 33-year old Jessie Waikiki.
The three argued and that argument eventually spilled onto the street.
It was Waikiki who apparently punched the woman in the face, and Rodrigues retaliated, allegedly beating Waikiki with the metal handle of a shopping cart.
"Officers were sent to a dropped 911 call on a cellular phone," says Detective Peter Boyle, of the Honolulu Police Department's Homicide Unit, "Dispatch was able to give the general location of where that call came from."
Both the woman and Waikiki were lying in the street when officers arrived. HPD performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived but he died at the hospital.
The woman also went to the hospital but she is expected to recover.
Rodrigues has not yet been charged.
In another strange twist, there was a fourth person, another man, who jumped in and helped with the attack on Waikiki. That man did not wait for police and they are still looking for him.
