Weed Warriors & volunteer recruitment and recognition

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Marine Corps Base Hawaii Weed Warriors program is an initiative put on by the Cultural Resources Management program, within the MCB Hawaii Environmental Department. This event is hosted by Marine Corps Base Hawaii Environmental Department.

Weed Warriors are active duty and family members, as well as community volunteers that join Base Environmental staff to remove weeds from native fish and wildlife wetland habitats on base. This experience allows volunteers to get up-close and learn about native plants and birds, make new friends, help native wildlife, have fun and make a difference.

MCB Hawaii provides gloves and tools to help remove the vegetation.  Please wear old clothes, close-toed shoes, and sunscreen, and don't forget to bring plenty of water.

Individual Letters of Appreciation are issued to each participant.

Adults age 18 and over are welcomed. Please no children due to safety concerns on this adult-oriented project. And no pets per Base Order P5233.2 due to wildlife protection concerns.

Sign up no later than the Friday before the event.
