Local Connection: Peter Boy Developments

. .

By: Rick Blangiardi

After 17 years, can it really be possible that there will finally be justice for Peter Boy Kema Junior, the six-year-old boy who suffered beatings and broken bones and unspeakable treatment at the hands of his parents?

The mystery of what ultimately happened to that little boy may finally be coming to light. As our reporter Lynn Kawano revealed, the case is being reopened thanks to Big Island prosecutor Mitch Roth and the recollections of Peter Boy's siblings, particularly his sister, who remembers seeing her brother carried into a room and later his body placed in a box. Later, she recalled driving with her father to a location where he buried a box.

The story is hard for us to tell, because the winsome little boy with the big smile deserved none of the abuse heaped on him. And many wonder how his parents, with their ridiculous story about Peter Boy being left with a fictitious aunt on Oahu, ever got away with this for so long or how the boy with the broken bones, just months after being born, was ever allowed to be returned home.

But if Hawaii County police and Roth do their jobs carefully, and there's no reason to believe they won't, we may see the perpetrators put beyond bars and maybe the rest of their family (and the many people in Hawaii who are still anguished over this case) can finally be satisfied that Peter Boy did not die in vain.
