North-northeast swell brings advisory-level surf to Hawaii
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A north-northeast swell combined with wind waves will continue to produce elevated surf along north, west and east shores of the Hawaiian islands.
A High Surf Advisory has been issued for the following shores:
Kauai: north, west, east shores
Niihau: north, west shores
Oahu: east shores
Molokai: east shores
Maui: east shores
Big Island: east shores
The advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters said surf along north- and west-facing shores to rise to 10 to 15 feet, and surf along east-facing shores will be between 5 to 8 feet. They expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong currents making swimming dangerous.
Beachgoers should heed all advice given by Ocean Safety officials.
