A Kona man has been arrested and charged with felony offenses after he was seen beating his dog.

An officer on patrol in Kona on Monday saw the man repeatedly punching his dog in a car on Palihiolo Street in the Kealakekua area. The Humane Society was called and police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Joshua White, who was already wanted for car theft from a body shop in Kailua-Kona on October 7.

White was arrested and taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation.

At 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (November 25), detectives charged him with felony cruelty to animals, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree theft. His bail was set at $45,000.

White's initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday (November 26).
