HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large north-northwest swell will keep surf above advisory levels for some Hawaiian islands. The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and for north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

The advisory is expected to last until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters said surf along north-facing shores should be between 10 to 15 feet, and 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores.

NWS said beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong currents making swimming dangerous.
