(RNN) - A window washer fell 11 stories from San Francisco's Sterling Bank & Trust building, landing on a passing car on Friday.

The washer was with a coworker on the roof of a building, moving equipment, when the accident occurred. The washer survived the fall and has been hospitalized with critical injuries, the Associated Press reports.

"This morning at 10:03, officers were dispatched to an accident here at Montgomery and California (streets)," said Sgt. Ed Del Carlo of the San Francisco Police Department said. "Apparently, the window washer was up on the 11th floor getting ready to work, fell off the apparatus, landed here on the street on a green Camry."

Bianca Bahman witnessed the fall and said that the man was "definitely screaming" as he fell.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was not hurt, but declined to comment.

On Nov. 12, two window washers on 1 World Trade Center were stranded 68 stories in the air for two hours after their scaffolding malfunctioned.
