Police investigate accident involving homeless man
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
An investigation is underway after a garbage truck hit and seriously injured a homeless man on Kapiolani Boulevard Wednesday morning.
According to Honolulu police, the truck was approaching the Lock Up Self Storage facility at around 5 a.m. when it ran over the man, who was lying on the ground near the door. The man was taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition and suffered a right leg injury, police said.
Police have classified this as a motor vehicle accident and, although the man was not lying on a sidewalk, comes at a time when the Honolulu City Council has approved expanding its sit-law law that bans sitting and lying on sidewalks in certain areas.
