Maui mayor accepting applications for boards

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa is accepting applications for seats on two dozen county boards and commissions.

The councils include the Police Commission, planning bodies like the Lanai Planning Commission and the Animal Control Board.

The mayor names people to the boards while the county council evaluates the nomination for confirmation. No compensation is provided and all positions are filled by volunteers.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 31.

Applications will be accepted online at Paper applications are available at the county building, public libraries and at council services offices on Molokai and Lanai and in Hana. Applications may also be found at parks and recreation permit offices.
