Honolulu named Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Thanks to things like the "Complete Streets" ordinance and the 2012 Oahu bike plan, Honolulu has been named a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
The strides... or better yet.... pedals taken to achieve this high honor include the addition of bike lanes to Waialae Ave. and a protected bike lane on King Street.
Hawaii's capitol was also recognized because of education programs like BikeEd for 4th graders and various other adult workshops.
Not only did Honolulu earn the Bronze, it also ranked as the 9th highest bike-commuting city in the nation. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, bicycle commuting rose by an unprecedented 92% between 2010 and 2013.
