Firefighters respond to building fire on Lusitana Street
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Officials have reopened Lusitana Street after firefighters battled a building fire on Monday morning.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, firefighters first heard the alarm at 8:20 a.m. and arrived to 1623 Lusitana Street -- a two-story single family dwelling -- at 8:26 a.m. Approximately 18 fire personnel were on scene.
HFD said the fire was contained to a couch in a room and was extinguished at around 8:32 a.m. Witnesses reported one of the residents out on the second floor balcony, attempting to put out the fire using a garden hose.
A family of seven -- two adults and five children -- managed to escape unharmed.
Fire investigators are on scene to assess the cause and damage estimates.
